This Week in Business

This Week in Business

Your Pictures Are Ready! If you were at the Business of the Year Awards on Friday, check out the amazing album put together by RyKie Images & Events. You can find it here:…/. If you love them as much as we did, reach out to Ryan to book your corporate or family photos.

And a huge thank-you to our attendees and the sponsors for the Business of the Year Awards. We had a great time, and hope you did too! Expect a quick survey in next week’s column so we can make it an even better event next year!

Fiscal Update: Federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau will provide an update on the nation’s finances Tuesday. The folks at the Chamber will watch and let you know if there are any changes that affect local business.

Chamber Board Meeting: Our Board of Directors meet Tuesday evening at 6pm and our meetings are open to any Member who wants to attend. Just give us a heads-up at the office so we can make sure we have enough chairs! Interested in joining the Board? That’s worth a chat, too! Give us a call at 403-362-7641 or

Interest Rate Hike? The Bank of Canada is meeting on Wednesday and is widely expected to hold the line on interest rates considering August retail sales came in below expectation and inflation was higher than expected in September.

Statistics Canada will release the following statistics this week:
• Monday: Wholesale Trade Figures
• Wednesday: Data on Housing, Immigration, and Ethnocultural Diversity;
• Friday; Data on Payroll, Employment, Earnings and Hours.
The data from StatsCan is for the month of August.

Great Work! Last, but not least, a huge congratulations to the folks who worked so hard to make the Power Up Brooks conference happen! It took a lot of work, but was well worth it! Cheers!
